There’s nothing like predictability in our daily lives, is there? We generally like knowing what to expect, and we thrive in structure.

But, in the midst of our focus on predictability and structure our daily lives can become monotonous and drab—our senses and minds can become dim and one dimensional—until we can scarcely see or feel the colors and vibes of Spirit moving all around us.

Then life can become gray, or worse, black and white.

Yikes!  What is life when lived in gray, or black and white?

Now, if you’re like me, and too much structure and predictability don’t appeal to you—and you need to dance and feel the freedom of being enchanted by a variety of tones, textures, sensations, thoughts and vibrations—then you also thrive in Spirit!

“I meditate” you might be saying, but let’s face it, meditation and mindfulness are all fine and good, and they definitely have their benefits, but for the majority, they just lead to more thinking, or at least attempts at thinking about not thinking.

Doesn’t sound like so much fun!

What I’m talking about here is not cerebral. It’s very much experiential and involves all the senses being opened to the world of enchantment that I call Spirit!

Alright, I know that there are several definitions of “Spirit” floating around out there, but I like to define it as the source of intelligence and activating force behind all the movements and manifestations of creation.

To me, Spirit is no thing yet it is in and vibrating around every thing.

So, before the metaphysicians jump on my back with a lot of talk about consciousness and other stuff, can we agree to just keep the definition as simple as possible?

I mean, definitions and philosophizing are great, but the most important thing here to remember is that Spirit is alive and being in touch with it enhances our aliveness!

And there’s little better than feeling truly alive!

Tips:

  1. Keep Vibrant Colors in Your Space: Don’t be afraid to splash your home or work environment with different and uplifting colors. I love golden shades of yellow, and deeper shades of red, and nearly all shades of green and purple. Go for it! If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then they have two sides. Feed the windows to your soul with beautiful colors, especially those of fresh flowers!
  2. Surround Yourself with Living Things: Now, some may argue that all things are living, but what I’m talking about here are things such as plants, crystals, perhaps fish, or bamboo—whatever that is alive with Nature and that feeds your Nature—surround yourself with it.
  3. Excite Your Sense of Smell: If in you’re in an office setting, you can keep a bottle or bottles of your favorite essential oils on hand to uplift or soothe your energy centers. Keep them on hand! At home you may decide to burn scented candles or incense, or even potpourri—let’s not forget the aromas of food—cook beautiful food for yourself and your family and watch how a tone is set in your environment by the wafting aromas!
  4. Ground Yourself in Sound: One of my favorite things to do is to listen to the music of Creation—the birds, wind blowing through the trees, the sound of the rain, the waves of the ocean, the stillness of winter, the rustling of leaves, the sound of children laughing, and even the scampering of the squirrels. Of course, music, especially made by the artfulness of human hands and voices is essential to life and living—so make sure you stay in touch with it—let the music play!
  5. Radiate Gratitude: Little more keeps us in touch with Spirit than gratitude; it opens us to the doorway of devotion. Each day, make it a habit to turn your frown upside down.:-) Smile at others, smile at life, lend an ear to a friend, pay a compliment to a stranger, let your heart expand with the sensation of gratitude for all that you are, all that you have, and all that you can give. Don’t forget to say thank you to yourself each morning—like this for instance, “Thank you Michelle, for waking up and feeding your children a healthy breakfast. Thank you, Michelle for taking time to pray and practice devotion. Thank you, Michelle for being a good mother, friend, sister, auntie, lover and human. Thank you, Michelle for your commitment to healing and growth.” Then, after thanking yourself, say to Life “I love you!”
While I acknowledge that this list is simple (as it was meant to be), I encourage you to add to it and watch yourself build up a set of habits and rituals that keep you in touch and alive with Spirit!
Thank you for reading. I welcome all feedback and comments.
In gratitude,
